How is panela sugar made?

Panela has been traditionally handmade for centuries by dehydrating raw sugarcane juice over a low heat until it is a thick syrup, then cooling the syrup into bricks. The low heat fires are fuelled by sugarcane stalks that are dried in the sun after harvesting and pressing, making it a very sustainable process.

Is panela same as jaggery?

Panela from Central and South America; made from sugarcane; ranges from toffee to dark-roux colouring. Jaggery from India; usually made from sugarcane but sometimes made from date palms; ranges from tan to chocolate colouring. The two sugars have very different taste profiles.

When and how should I use Panela?

You can switch out most light-medium brown sugars for Panela and get excellent results. In fact, you can also lose the need for extracts and essences in baking, as the Panela provides a beautifully full-bodied caramel taste. It also makes a great flavour enhancer in cooking and for use in cocktails.

The best part is they are organic

Simply love Bonraw products. The best part is they are organic natural sugars that I can even add to my little man's recipes. That's the best part and no compromise to taste which is even better.

Depth's of flavour.

Bonraw producs are phenomenal! They are so delicious and work exceptionally well as sweeteners for baked goods, with the coconut blossom and panela adding a beautiful depth of flavour.

Perfect, healthy replacement

It's a perfect healthy replacement for standard brown sugar, with a wonderful, subtle caramel flavour. You use it in exactly the same way as standard brown sugar!
