Super easy and quick Oven Roasted Caramelised Onions with Bonraw Organic Panela. The Organic Panela breaks down in the onion, leading to a sweet and rich flavour that's almost jammy. These onions are not just for hot dogs or burgers. Delicious piled into, cheese toasties, pasta dishes or served alongside a cheeseboard.
-1 tbsp olive oil
-2 red onions, finely sliced
-1 tsp thyme, chopped
-1 tbsp BONRAW Organic Panela
-4 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- To start, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a lidded frying pan over low heat. Add in the sliced red onions, and 1 tsp of thyme. Cover them and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, cook until soft and slightly golden.
- Remove the lid, lower the heat, and stir through 4 tbsp of balsamic vinegar and 1 tbsp of Organic Panela. Add in 2 tbsp of water and cook for a further 5 minutes until the liquid has disappeared.
- Remove from the heat and set aside to cool. Once cool, put your caramelised onions in a well-sealed container and place them in the freezer.
- To use, defrost in the fridge overnight and then heat in a pan with a splash of cold water.
